FAISALABAD, March 15: Two sons of a city Nazim were tortured in the Rail Bazaar police station after their scuffle with its SHO over some minor issue here on Monday.

Reports said Rail Bazaar Police arrested a young boy, Imran Ashraf, and a girl, Ishrat Fatima, on the Circular Road for quarrelling with each other. The police team shifted them to the police station and asked the women police to handle the matter.

In the meantime, union council Nazim Irfan Haider Cheema and his elder brother, Sajjad Haider Cheema, both sons of Tehsil City Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema, rushed to the police station and held dialogues with SHO Muhammad Akmal for arresting the boy and the girl.

The two brothers and SHO exchanged hot words and physically quarrelled. The Cheema brothers torn apart the SHO's uniform after which the policemen on duty overpowered them and thrashed them in the lock-up.

After receiving information, SP (city) Abdul Mateen rushed to the spot and inquired the matter. After detailed inquiry, the SP freed the arrested sons of the Nazim and said appropriate action would be taken after a thorough inquiry.

When contacted, SHO Muhammad Akmal claimed that the Cheema brothers indulged in physical fight without any reason. He claimed that they attacked him first and threw the office furniture. He denied the reports of physical torture of the Nazims' sons.

The Cheema brothers claimed that they were severely beaten up by the SHO when they asked him to resolve a petty issue. They claimed that SHO became infuriated without any justification and started beating them in his room.

The inquiries revealed that the arrested girl was a resident of Jhal Khanuana and was divorced by her husband after couple of years of their love-marriage. Imran Ashraf wanted to take the girl with him for reconciliation with her former husband.

Both the girl and the boy exchanged harsh words with each other and in the meantime some area shopkeepers informed the Rescue-15 police about the scene created both of them. No case has been registered till the filing of this report.
