SRINAGAR, March 14: Five Kashmiris freedom fighters and a civilian were killed and six others injured in the latest burst of violence in occupied Kashmir, police said on Sunday.

The militants died during three separate clashes in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch overnight and on Sunday, police said. "All the three encounters erupted during cordon-and-search operations. The identities of the slain militants are being ascertained," the police statement said.

Police said a Muslim civilian was shot dead after being abducted him from his house overnight in the southern district of Pulwama. No rebel group has claimed responsibility. Meanwhile, six people, including three children, were injured on Sunday in Kupwara district when an abandoned explosive device blew up, police said.
