RAWALPINDI, March 14: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police have requested the government to call in the Rangers and Frontier Constabulary personnel to help them perform the security duty for the forthcoming 9th SAF Games, an official source told Dawn.
The SAF Games are starting from March 29-April 7 at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad. In addition, the ICT administration have also demanded Rs1,52,40,000 from the federal government for providing the participants with international standard accommodation, transportation, dining facilities and security cover, the source said.
The source said the ICT administration had submitted a comprehensive report to the interior ministry comprising expenditure on security and boarding and lodging of the security personnel.
The security arrangements for the SAF Games are being made as per international standard. As part of the security plan, the interior ministry has asked the Punjab and NWFP governments to provide about 2,000 Rangers and FC personnel for security duty during the SAF Games.
Meanwhile, fool-proof security arrangements have been made for the second one-dayer between India and Pakistan at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. Governor Punjab Khalid Maqbool is likely to visit the Pindi Cricket Stadium sometime on Monday to review the security arrangements.
A full-dress rehearsal of the security plan is scheduled to be held on Monday. Besides the police personnel, around 450 officials of the Special Branch in plain clothes will be deployed at the walk-through gates of the stadium. The walk-through electronic gates have been set up at entry points, while the double road passing has been closed to traffic.
