WASHINGTON, March 14: US Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Sunday that the Basque separatist group ETA was still a suspect in last week's bombing attacks in Madrid but it's too early to blame any particular group.

Mr Powell's observation came hours after the Spanish government said it was still unable to identify the man who claimed responsibility for Thursday's bomb attacks that killed 200 people and injured more than 1,500.

The suspect, who appeared on a video, identified himself as an Al Qaeda leader and said his group was responsible for the attack. Mr Powell also exercised caution when asked by an interviewer on Fox News on Sunday if he could confirm that Al Qaeda had orchestrated the bombings in Madrid as some US officials were saying.
