US backing peace moves: PM

LAHORE, March 13: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said the US was backing the Pakistan-India peace initiatives and dialogue.

Mr Jamali was talking to reporters after the convocation of the Punjab University on Saturday. Responding to US Secretary of State Colin Powell's statement that the US was backing peace dialogue, he said: "The US is backing the peace process, as it wants to create peace in the region."

He further said the US was facilitating Pakistan-India talks.

Replying to a question about the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal's protest against government policies in the NWFP, Mr Jamali said the government had no rift with the MMA.
