Aqeel to face Asim in final

LAHORE, March 13: Top seed Aqeel Khan and third seed Asim Shafiq cruised into the final of the 19th Governor's Cup tennis tournament at Chenab Club, Faisalabad , according to a message received on Saturday.

Aqeel, who was playing against his younger brother Jalil Khan faced no difficulty and won the straight sets semifinals 6-2, 6- 3.

Asim, however stunned second seed Nomi Qamar 6-3, 6-3 in the second semifinals.

Umer Babar, the second seed, upset top seed Tanveer Ashiq to win boys' singles Under-17 final. Umer won 7-6, 7-6.

Results:

Men's Singles (semifinals): Aqeel Khan bt Jalil Khan 6-2, 6-3. Asim Shafiq bt Nomi Qamar 6-3, 6-3.

Boys Singles Under-17 (final): Umer Babar bt Tanveer Ashiq 7-6, 7-6.

Men's Doubles (final): Aqeel Khan-Jalil Khan (Wapda) bt Asim Shafiq-Shahzad Khan 6-4, 7- 5.

Veteran's Doubles (Over 45 semifinals): Rao Iftikhar-Zahid Zafar bt Naveed Najam-Toor 6-4, 6-1. Laeeq Pirzada- Naveed bt Shahid Karamat-Sanaullah 7-6, 6-2.
