MULTAN: Salary raise for doctors soon - Emergency services

MULTAN, March 11: The Punjab government will soon start paying 50 per cent additional salary to the doctors, who serve at the emergency wards of the state-run hospitals.
This was announced by Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi while speaking at a ceremony held at the Nishter Medical College and Hospital auditorium. The function was held to distribute scholarships among students from a Rs500 million endowment fund constituted to support the brilliant students of medical and engineering institutions, who didn't afford fees.
He said a special ambulance service would be introduced in the province. A separate department would run the service and initially the project had been launched at the provincial capital, he added.
He said experts from the UK had been called to improve working capacity of the nurses. The government would also ensure the availability of doctors at rural areas by offering them incentives.
According to the plan, he said, a doctor would be appointed for three basic health units for which he would be paid Rs30,000 a month, besides giving him a car. The chief minister announced a Rs5 million grant for the Children Complex Hospital and two buses for the NMC students.
The management of the college and hospital urged the CM to provide a dialysis machine, Rs20 million for laying down a proper sewerage system, Rs20 million for the nursing college, Rs200 million for the burn unit, Rs80 million for the dental college building and Rs10 million for repairs.
Mr Pervaiz Elahi also attended a function arranged by the Multan Industrial Estate Development and Management Committee. He said his government had established a fund of Rs1 billion for the improvement of industrial estates in the province through public-private partnership.
He said Rs100 million were being spent for the development of the Multan Industrial Estate. The CM also went to the house of late Hamid Raza Gillani to condole his death with his family.
