KARACHI: Sindh govt secretaries fail to respond to AG's directive

KARACHI, March 11: The administrative secretaries of the Sindh government failed to respond to the inquiry of Accountant General Sindh directing them to send cases six months before the due date of retirement of their employees.
But, even after six months of its circulation none of the secretaries of the provincial government departments have so far sent any list to the AG Office.
Taking notice of the situation Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkil Kazi, has asked all the secretaries to send lists to the AG Sindh of their employees who were due for retirement within six months so that their dues and pension papers could be prepared well in advance so that it could be delivered to the retiring officer the very next day of retirement.
This circular was sent to all heads of the provincial departments when the tragic case of Prof Jakhrani came to light. Prof Jakhrani was found dead alongwith his wife in a pathetic condition in Malir due to non-payment of his provident fund and pension even after running from pillar to post over a year came to light.
However, 'the AG Sindh Salahuddin Ahmad has decided to publish a directory of pensioners of all employees of the government of Sindh numbering over 130,000 with all relevant details.
Besides, in order to provide relief to the retired employees, the AG Sindh has started holding open Kutchery on every Friday between 10 am to 12 noon to provide relief to the pensioners and eliminate tout culture.
Mr Salahuddin told Dawn that in the beginning he used to get 200 complaints every Friday but due to prompt action the complaints had reduced to only half a dozen.
The AG Sindh said that its offices which were located in a 16 -story building near Civic Centre with annual rent of one million rupees. He said that out of seven, five acres land of the AG department was encroached and efforts were being made to get back the possession of the land to construct its own secretariat building.
Regarding the issue of non-payment of salaries to 220 non-gazetted teachers for want of documents on their inter-districts transfers, he said that the cases of 114 teachers were verified and their salaries duly released but still the salaries of 104 teachers were withheld owing to irregularities.
The AG Sindh said that if any employee of his department was found involved in irregularities in inter-district transfers or house purchase loans, actions would be taken against him.
He asked all administrative secretaries to cooperate in the transparent working of the department by bringing complaints, if any with regard to inefficient working of the AG employees, to his knowledge to initiate timely action.
