KARACHI, March 11: The Sri Lankan Eye Bank Society has promised to donate 78 corneal grafts to Pakistan, said a press release issued by Spencer Eye Hospital on Thursday.
According to it, a delegation of the Sri Lankan Eye Bank Society met the Nazim of Karachi, Naimatullah Khan, after which it was decided that the corneas would be donated over a period of three months.
The corneas were meant for the needy patients, said the release. The Sri Lankan delegation was headed by Mrs Hudson D' Silva, the chief of the Sri Lankan Eye Bank Society. Dr Qasim, the medical director of the society, was among the delegates.
The delegation, during a visit to the Spencer Eye Hospital, expressed their satisfaction with the care provided to the four patients who underwent graft operations a few weeks ago.
They also inspected the list of patients who were waiting for corneal grafts. They promised that donation of corneas would continue to benefit the poor and blind people in the future as well, added the press release.
