KARACHI, March 10: The Sindh High Court restrained the city government on Wednesday from allowing the use of the KMC Sports Complex for wedding ceremonies and other functions.

The misuse of the complex has been questioned by the residents of Kashmir Road through Advocate M. Zahid Khan. The lawyer submitted before Justice Mushir Alam that the complex, its indoor gymnasium and the city officers lawn (Kashmir Corner) were all meant for sports and recreational activities.

The law bars the use of any premises reserved for amenities from being put to any commercial use. He said the complex was being used for commercial purposes in violation of the law. The court issued notices to the defendants for a date in office and barred the holding of marriage and other functions at the premises in the meanwhile.

LAWYER FINED: Justice Ghulam Nabi Soomro, meanwhile, fined a lawyers for appearing for a party without power and instructions in an attempt to charge undue professional fee from it.

The party's counsel, Nisar A. Mujahid, submitted that he was the duly constituted attorney for the party 'sought to be blackmailed'. He also stated that the unauthorized application had been moved in a decided case. Dismissing the application, the judge imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the lawyer.
