KARACHI, March 10: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan inaugurated Government Degree Girls College in Sector 11-I, North Karachi, on Wednesday.

The construction work for the college building was started in 1998 while teaching activities at the college commenced in September 2003. At present, about 250 students are getting education in science and commerce faculties.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, City Nazim said that the government had been striving to get able and educated people their right place in society so that the number of unemployed people increasing every year could be brought down.

He said that foreign investors were being persuaded to invest in information technology sector. This would create a lot number of job opportunities for people, he added.

Mr Khan said, "Every year 3,000 to 5,000 more students are aspiring to take admission in colleges and want to get higher education. To cater the needs of increasing number of students, new colleges are urgently required," he said.

City Nazim said that the establishment of new colleges was not difficult, but, there was a dearth of staff to run these colleges. The ban on recruitment was main factor behind this shortage of staff, he added. -PPI
