Western media playing 'negative role'

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, March 9: The Western media is continuously playing a negative role against Muslims, especially after 9/11, poisoning brains of innocent people. "This propaganda campaign is so strong and deep that even children are forming negative opinion against the Muslims," says Left Party, Sweden, activist Kamil Siddique.

Mr Siddique, who is currently in Pakistan to visit his family, has been residing in Stockholm for the last two decades and associated with the Left Party, a component of the ruling coalition in Sweden, as commune (divisional) counsellor.

People there have a strong belief in their media, which was exploiting this trust for its ulterior motives, he told Dawn. About the left wing politics, he said though issues like the ones prevalent in the subcontinent were non-existent in Sweden, there were class problems and a certain level of poverty that provided an opportunity to socialist and communist elements to benefit from.

The Socialist Democratic Party is the main constituent of the ruling coalition. During the last one decade, he said, the Left Party had increased its vote bank from three to 15 per cent. About social problems, he said at present a mass drive was continuing in Sweden against pornography and legislation in this regard was expected soon.
