KARACHI: SSC exams held smoothly

KARACHI, March 9: The SSC annual examinations-2004 were conducted peacefully at all the centres in the city on Tuesday, the examination controller of the education board said.

Some of the centres in Gadap and Malir towns, where examination process was affected on Monday due to disturbance and law and order situation, functioned smoothly on Tuesday, Controller Examination, Muhammad Saleem Khan, said on the behalf of the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi.

He said that those who could not appear in the examination on Monday, could now take the examination on March 15 and March 16 as per their respective group schedules. He confirmed that on Monday papers could not be held at four government boys secondary schools at Murad Memon Goth and Bhiroo village Town in Gadap and Malir town.

In the meantime, according to sources in the education circles, candidates of Class X, appearing in failed papers, at some centres resorted to cheating and other unfair means on Tuesday.

At a few centres students tried to impersonate the candidates as well, the source added. However, a senior board official said that centre superintendents, in case of any emergency or untoward situation, could contact the in charge of the Examination Vigilance Cell at the board office on telephone numbers, 6615507 and 6617409.

He further said that vigilance teams would be sent to examinations centre from March 15, when the second and major phase of examinations would start.
