HYDERABAD, March 9: Members of the City Taluka Council on Tuesday walked out of the council session to protest against what they called indifferent attitude of taluka municipal administration officers.
Ghaffar Shah rose on a point of order and said the officers were not attending sessions of the council which indicated that they were not interested in resolving problems confronting the people.
He urged the members to stage a walkout from the session to register their protest against the officers' attitude. The proceedings were suspended for a brief period.
Convener Abdul Qadeer Nagar directed the council officer to send a letter to the taluka municipal officer to ensure that the officers attended the council sessions regularly. He said a copy of the letter should also be forwarded to the secretary for local government.
Usman Abbasi tabled a resolution calling for construction of parks on amenity plots to provide a healthy environment to the people. He said the parks would help control pollution.
The resolution was passed unanimously with an amendment that it should be sent to the parks committee of the taluka council. The council also adopted another resolution of Mr Abbasi, calling upon Sindh and federal governments to do away with the condition of collection of unnecessary documents from candidates applying for different jobs as it would provide monetary relief to them.
The convener asked fire brigade committee chairman Azhar Shaikh to present a report of the committee in the next session. Qamaruddin Shaikh and Abdul Waheed Qureshi are members of the committee. A resolution tabled by Rana Siddiqui, seeking separate portion for women at the Hasrat Mohani Library, was also passed by the taluka council.
