HYDERABAD, March 9: According to a revised plan, the Akram Wah will now remain closed from March 10 for 15 days instead of 24 days as suggested by the DCO.

In a statement issued here on Monday, a Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority spokesmen said that the closure was aimed at completing remaining work of revamping the canal to ensure full supply of water as per its designed capacity. The work, he added, was initially started during the annual canal closure period when 50 per cent of work was completed.

He said that the executive engineer, Akram Wah division, had informed the Hyderabad Development Authority of the canal closure programme on Jan 30.

He added that the irrigation official had advised the HDA to make arrangements for storing water for the closure period. He said that the federal government had allocated special funds for clearing silt from the canal and repairing its damaged lining.

HAIR DRESSERS: DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed has said that a course on hair cutting will be introduced in one of the vocational training institutes in the district. He was talking to a delegation of the Hair Dressers Association here on Monday.
