LAHORE, March 9: Punjab Accountant-General Wazir Ahmad Qureshi said on Tuesday that officers of the provincial and district governments were openly ridiculing the steps announced by the president
and the provincial chief secretary for the benefit of retired government servants.
Lists of these officers would be sent to the chief secretary so that action could be taken against them, Mr Qureshi said while presiding over the weekly review meeting here.
He directed all drawing and disbursing officers (DDOs) to pay attention towards the service matters of their non-gazetted subordinates. They were also asked to get confirmed the 10 and 25 years service of their subordinates after immediately mentioning the GP Fund account numbers on their service books so that they could not face any problem at the time of their retirement.
Earlier, Mr Qureshi regretted that as against the requirement of preparing two service books of every government employee, none of the DDOs in the province had done so.
The GP Fund number of all employees was not also being mentioned in their service books, leaving them at the mercy of clerks and authorized officers at the time of their retirement, he said.
Mr Qureshi said all DDOs were bound to complete service books of their subordinate officials but they were not fulfilling their responsibility despite repeated reminders by the district accounts offices.
He directed the DDOs to prepare the lists of all employees who would retire from service during the next five years so that all related shortcomings could timely be removed.
A number of district account officers informed the meeting that the authorized officers of the provincial and district governments were not cooperating with them in this regard. In response, Mr Qureshi directed them to issue a reminder to all departments.
Earlier, he directed his department officials to also mention the tenure of posting and details of the GP Fund of all transferred gazetted officers in their last pay certificates so that they could be saved from the hassle of contacting the accountant-general's office for the same. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the department and officials from the district accounts offices.
