LAHORE, March 8: Punjab IGP Syed Masud Shah on Monday claimed that the network behind the recent suicide bombings in the country had been traced. "We have come to know the organisations and groups involved in the suicide attacks.
We have traced their network," the IGP said while talking to reporters after inaugurating the new police investigation headquarters in Qila Gujjar Singh.
The police chief however declined to give details: "I am not supposed to give you further details (about the network) at this point. Just give us some more time," he said.
He also gave details about the security measures taken for the Indian cricket team's visit. About the cricketers' security, he said elaborate arrangements had been made and at least 2,300 policemen would be available exclusively for that purpose.
Plainclothesmen from other law-enforcement agencies, and special squads from the Crime Investigation Department (CID), would also be deployed. CID personnel were also working on information sharing, he added.
"Let me give an assurance that foolproof security measurers have been taken to provide full protection to our Indian guests," said the police chief. He added that the deployment would be divided into three groups; for guarding players at stadiums, in hotels and during their movements.
