JUI-F calls for halting Wana operation

By Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, March 8: The provincial council of Jamiat Ulema-i- Islam, said it has opposed the military operation in Wana, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), and has asked the federal government to stop the action against tribesmen , on the behest of the American government.

According to a party press release issued here on Sunday, the meeting held at Namak Mandi mosque here warned the government of the consequences of the military operation, which could give rise to hatred towards the Pakistani army by the peaceful tribesmen.

The release said the operation depicts a conspiracy against Pakistan's sovereignty on the part of the federal government. The meeting also chalked out a plan for the MMA to protest against the government's foreign policy and operation against tribesmen.

A two-member committee including Senator Maulana Naseeb Gul and Mufti Kifayat Ullah was constituted to contact the chief of his own faction of the JUI-S Senator Maulana Sami-ul-Haq and his son Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq to allay their differences with the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA).

The meeting expressed concern over the differences between two component parties of the MMA in Nowshera district, and resolved to take measures to remove their differences. It also expressed concern over 'the increasing' obscenity in the country and warned the federal minister of information to rectify its media policy.
