PPP defends Ramay's decision

SAHIWAL, March 8: The March 11 ARD meeting in Sahiwal will play 'a decisive role' in the removal of General Pervez Musharraf and restoration of democracy in the country. This was claimed by Punjab ARD president Qasim Zia while talking to pressmen here on Monday.

Mr Zia, also the PPP Punjab president, said that the joining of the PPP by former MNA Mian Anwarul Haq Ramay was the internal matter of the party. He said the PML-N or any other component party of the ARD should not make this an issue.

He said if PML-N's district president Malik Nadeem Kamran had an enmity with any one, he should desist from using the ARD platform to settle his score. None would be allowed to cause any trouble in the ARD meeting.

He said the PPP was a broad-based party which could not shut its doors on new entrants, adding that former federal ministers and MPs were in touch with the party leadership for joining the party. However, he said the party would keep in view the trend of such politicians who had been playing the role of 'turncoats' at the time of issuance of the party tickets for elections.

Meanwhile, the Punjab ARD served a notice on district PML-N president Malik Nadim Kamran for disrupting the ARD meeting here on Sunday. The district PML-N president has been summoned to Lahore on March 10 for explanation.

The notice alleged that the district president had stopped his party's Punjab president Khawaja Saad Rafique from participation in the ARD meeting. Besides, he was also alleged to have incited the party workers to lodge a protest against the joining of the PPP by Mian Anwarul Haq Ramay.

This caused a delay in the meeting and the ARD district president had to bring back the annoyed workers for participation in the meeting, the notice said.
