SHEIKHUPURA, March 8: Transporters and commuters travelling on the Sheikhupura-Lahore Road have protested against the deteriorated condition of a portion of the road between Lahore and Sheikhupura.

They alleged that this portion of the road had become unmotorable for the last one year. They said it seemed that the authority concerned had closed their eyes and were waiting for the complete destruction of the road.

A group of transporters and commuters led by Ilyas said that a sum of Rs1.2 million was allocated every year for the maintenance of the road, but the funds went unutilized. They urged the governor and chief minister to intervene in the matter and redress the grievances of the suffering commuters and transporters.

SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead by his three relatives on Monday over a family feud in Manawala, some 40kms from here.

Ayub's brother-in-law had divorced his wife Shahnaz sometime back. The woman's brothers Afzal, Iqbal and Sajjad suspected the hand of Ayub in divorce. On Monday, brothers of Shahnaz barged into the house of Ayub and shot him dead. The deceased was the father of eight children. Manawala police have registered a case against the accused brothers.
