PPP observes protest in Sindh cities: MPA's murder

HYDERABAD, March 7: Demonstrations were held in most towns of interior Sindh by activists of the People's Party Parliamentarians on Sunday to protest against the murder of MPA Abdullah Murad in Karachi.
Party leaders, while denouncing the murder, said the law and order machinery had collapsed in the province and the government had failed to provide protection to the people.
A condolence meeting was also held at the Bhurgari House here that called upon the Sindh government to resign immediately as it had failed to curb terrorism.
MIRPRUKHAS: A procession was taken out by PPP activists to protest against the murder of MPA Murad and demand immediate arrest of his killers.
JACOBABAD: A large number of PPP activists took out a procession to protest against the murder of the MPA. Carrying banners and placards, the protesters raised slogans against the government and demanded the arrest of the killers.
PPP secretary-general Abdul Sattar and others said when the government had failed to protect an MPA, how could it protect the common man.
NAWABSHAH: Several PPP workers took out a protest procession against the killing of Mr Murad.
Led by acting district PPP president MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio, the protesters carried banners and raised slogans against the government.
Mr Chandio, while asserting that the Sindh government had failed to maintain law and order in the province, demanded that the killers should be arrested immediately.
LARKANA: Activists of the Sindh People's Students Federation took to the streets here on Sunday to protest against the murder of Mr Murad.
SUKKUR: PPP activists in Thul and Garhi Khairo took out protest processions on Sunday against the murder of the MPA.
In Thul, hundreds of protesters staged a sit-in at the Rahbar Chowk and demanded the arrest of the killers.They also burnt tyres and blocked the highway for several hours.
THATTA: PPP office-bearers, Sindh People's Students Federation activists, an activist of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, a Pesh Imam and others were booked by the Thatta police on charges of attempted murder, provocation and public nuisance.
In an FIR lodged with the Thatta police, Ibrahim Memon stated that PPP activists stormed his shop in the Shahi Bazaar and insisted on closing the shop in protest of the killing of the MPA in Karachi. On his refusal, he added, they ransacked his shop and attacked him.
Those nominated in the FIR included Imtiaz Qureshi, district information secretary, Mujahid Hashim, record and events secretary, Sabz Ali Sarki, Ibrahim Sarki, Shabbir Samoon, Vikio, Mubarak Khatri, all activists of SPSF, Nazir Jakhro, an activist of the HRCP, and Shahid Soomro, a Pesh Imam.
Speaking at a press conference at the Soomra Manzil here, district PPP president Dr Abdul Wahid Soomro, former MNA Babu Ghulam Hussain and others denied the charges levelled in the FIR.
They said Syed Maqbool Shah, a brother of the district Nazim, was present at the complainant's shop when PPP activists approached the shopkeeper for cooperation.
They said later a group of their political rivals stormed the PPP office at the Soomra Manzil and injured an activist, Azam Sari. They said the group also resorted to aerial firing. They said they went to the Thatta police station but their complaint was not lodged. Meanwhile, a partial strike was observed in some towns of the district.
