Women swimmers face tough task

ISLAMABAD, March 6: Pakistan's lady swimmers, set to make debut at the SAF Games, will have to come out with something special to land a gold medal.

Kiran Khan and a couple of others from the home nation are capable of upsetting the favourites from India and Sri Lanka in an event or two in the SAF Games female swimming competitions, according to their coaches.

The likely names to pull off upset at the 12 SAF Games female swimming events will be those of Sana Wajid, Kiran, Rubab Raza and Mehr-u-Nisa.

The other girls in the 16-member national female swimming squad appear to be no more than novices.

"For an upset to happen, our lady swimmers will have to really focus on the job at hand and work hard to obtain gold medals", according to assistant coach, Natasha.

"However, I am optimist as the swimmers are showing improved performance in the training camp under the guidance of Chinese coach, Lihei and we expect more than one gold medal in the Games", she said.

Other players in the squad are :Mahera Kareem, Ayesha Tajwar, Eia Khan, Rida, Anam, Afia, Aqsa, Reema, Mehvish, Noor Sheikh, Khadija.-APP
