Pakistan likely to bag ten athletics golds

ISLAMABAD, March 6: Pakistani athletes are confident of winning eight to 10 gold medals in the track-and-field competitions of the forthcoming SAF Games.

There will be 32 gold medals up for grabs in the athletics competitions of the March 29-April 7 SAF Games and Pakistan hopes to grab gold medals mostly in the 19 boys events, according to coach Chaudhary Muhammad Yousuf.

The Pakistani squad will comprise 46 men and 26 women athletes who are all under training at Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex.

Yousuf named Zulfiqar Ali (800 metres), Inam Ali Shah (800-1500 metres), Sarfraz Khan (800-1500 metres), Amin (400 metres hurdles) and Afzal Baig (200 metres) as some of the potential gold medal-winners for Pakistan.

"All of them are gold medalists in various national and even in some international championships and we are quite sure about them winning gold medals for us", Yousuf said.

"In fact our entire squad is well prepared and capable of giving a fight in each of the 32 events", he said.-APP
