KARACHI, March 6: Dr Hameeda Morawej, the wife of Iranian vice-president, visited two orphanages for girls and appreciated efforts of the committed individuals in realizing their responsibility towards society.

During her day-long stay in Karachi and before her departure back to Iran on Saturday evening, Dr Hameeda along with an entourage of seven ladies, Iranian deputy ambassador and his wife visited Edhi Centre's Home for Girls at Clifton and later the Kashana-i-Atfal.

Dr Hameeda Morawej at the very onset appreciated Abdul Sattar Edhi and Bilquis Edhi for carving a Muslim name among the prominent and the internationally recognized list of contributors for social service and humanitarian cause.

Following a briefing given to her by Kubra Edhi mentioning that 375 orphan and destitute girls are provided high school level education besides being trained in varied domestic skills, the guest visitor gave a donation of Rs300,000 to the Edhi Centre.

Dr Morawej also expressed her gratitude to the Edhis for their assistance in the rehabilitation of earthquake victims of Bam in Iran. The fact that Edhi Trust provided a support of five million dollars for the victims was also lauded by her.

She prayed for long life and happiness to the Edhi family so that they could continue with their selfless services.

Later, she visited the Kashana-i-Atfal and was welcomed by Begum Ispahani, Begum Mehmood, Begum Parveen Maqbool, Asma Hasan and other ladies responsible for the management of the orphanage.

Dr Morawej was informed that 150 girls were provided shelter and all facilities of life at the Kashana. Begum Ispahani informed the wife of Iranian vice-president that the centre was being run by a team of dedicated women for the last 40 years.

She mentioned that all necessities of the girls were being taken into care in a very oriental way. The guest announced a donation of Rs100,000 for the Kashana-i-Atfal. -APP
