McKenzie hammers century
NAPIER, March 5: South Africa's Neil McKenzie warmed up for the Test series against New Zealand by smashing an unbeaten century in the three-day tour match against Central Districts on Friday.
South Africa declared their first innings on 286 for five, to give their bowlers a 40-minute workout against the Central batsmen. At the close, the home side were 36 for two, with Andre Nel and David Terbrugge getting the wickets.
With the hosts struggling on 90 for four, McKenzie and stand-in skipper Mark Boucher resurrected the innings with a 115-run partnership. Boucher was caught and bowled by Regan West for 58.
Nicky Boje scored a 33-ball 38 as he and McKenzie shared an unbeaten stand of 81 for the sixth wicket before Boucher declared on the completion of McKenzie's century.
McKenzie was particularly harsh on young left-arm spinner West, lofting him for four sixes. The pick of the home bowling was Andrew Schwass, who took three for 57.
