KARACHI: Demarcation at Education City site ordered
KARACHI, March 5: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Friday chaired a crucial meeting with regard to the establishment of the proposed 'Education City' which would be spread over an area of 8,000 acres
along the Link Road between National Highway and Super Highway.
After considering various offers, the meeting decided to expedite the process for demarcation and issuance of notification thereof so that this mega-project could be given a practical shape as soon as possible.
It also decided that the EDO (revenue) would prepare a working paper after establishing contacts with various universities. The EDO (master plan) was directed to give a spur to the planning process keeping in view the by-laws, demarcation and master planning.
The meeting further decided to approach the provincial government for the cancellation of allotment of industrial and commercial land within the project site and its adjoining areas.
The City Nazim told the meeting that the Education City project, which would commensurate with 21st century, would prove to be a milestone in the field of modern scientific subjects and research.
This project would not only cater to the needs of Karachi, but the entire country, as well as other countries of South Asia. It would help reduce illiteracy, he added.
The meeting was attended by EDO (revenue) Mohammed Waseem, EDO (master plan) Zaigham Jaffery, DG of Mass Transit Malik Zahirul Islam, Project Director of MDA Amirzada Khan Kohati, Deputy MD (technical services) of KWSB Suleman Chandio, DG of Aga Khan University Mansoor S. Sultan, Nisar Hasan Ali Effendi of Sindh Madressah Board, VC of Ziauddin University Shahid Aziz Siddiqi and Prof Zafar Hussain of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation. Officials of KESC, SSGC and other organizations were also present at the meeting. -APP
