KARACHI: Boy stabbed to death in Korangi

KARACHI, March 5: A twelve-year-old boy was killed by unknown persons in Korangi Industrial Area on Friday. Police said that the body was found near a private hospital in 36-B Area on Friday morning.

Police shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem examination.

On Friday evening, the victim was identified as Mohammad Moiz, who had gone missing since late Thursday night. Hospital sources said that the boy had suffered a wound with a sharp-edged weapon at his chest.

Following the initial investigations, police said that Moiz had quarrelled with another boy on Thursday night. However, no arrests had been made yet and investigations were still being carried out, police added.

ENCOUNTER: Police shot dead a wanted suspect reportedly in an encounter in Nazimabad late Thursday night. Police said that on an information that some suspects were seen roaming in the area, a police party was dispatched. Seeing the police, the suspects who were in a taxi (JL-0742) opened fire ensuing police retaliation in which the suspect identified as Mujahid Husain died.

Police arrested his two accomplices Munir Ahmed and Rab Nawaz and recovered two pistols from their possession. According to the police, the suspect was wanted in at least five criminal cases.

SUICIDE: A newly married woman committed suicide by hanging herself in Site early Friday morning. Police said that Rukhsana, 25, ended her life by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her house in Metroville, Site. Her body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy examination.

According to initial investigations, police said the woman was married two months back. She had become dejected over the ill-treatment meted out by her in-laws, police said. Her husband, Imtiaz, was a factory worker, police added.

ARRESTED: The Crime Investigation Department, on Friday, arrested two suspects of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and recovered a sizable quantity of hand-grenades from their possession.

Sources in the CID told Dawn that two suspects, Sahib Shah and Shahid were picked up from Korangi late Thursday night. The CID recovered 10 hand-grenades from their possession, sources said. Both the suspects were being grilled by the investigators, they added.

ROBBERIES: Three armed men took away cash and valuables worth one million rupees from an apartment in Gulistan- i-Jauhar late Thursday night.

According to police, Kausar Naz Naqvi told the Sharae Faisal police that three armed men barged into her apartment in Erum Heights in Block-13. They collected 10,000 US dollars, 9,000 Saudi Riyals and Rs60,000 cash along with some jewellry, cameras, watches and other valuables.

Police said that the complainant identified one of the suspects as her former employee. In Model Colony, four armed men deprived a family of Rs65,000 and gold ornaments early Friday morning.

Asadullah Mughal told Dawn that around 4am, four armed men cut out the grill and entered his house in Model Colony. He said that all the house inmates were asleep, the intruders awaken them and asked for cash and jewellry.

Mr Mughal said that they collected two gold jewellry sets and Rs65,000. They distributed the cash among themselves and even consumed fruits during their stay in the house, he added. In another robbery, two armed men deprived Mr Ahmedullah of Rs257,000 in Gulshan-i-Jamal late Thursday night.
