KARACHI, March 4: A police constable allegedly shot dead his wife and step son and injured his daughters in Ferozabad on Thursday morning, later surrendering himself to police.

The police said that constable Ameer Abdullah Khan, 50, was residing in Ferozabad police quarters with his second wife Hafeeza Begum, 40, also a constable in Special Branch.

Jamshed Town Police Officer Fayyaz Qureshi told Dawn the incident was result of some domestic dispute pertaining to his daughter-in-law. Quoting the suspect, the TPO said that on Thursday Abdullah opened fire at his family when they allegedly attacked him.

As a result, his step son Mohammad Ashfaq and wife died, while Farzana, the wife of Mohammad Ashfaq, Naheed Akhtar, Abdullah's step daughter and Farzana, his daughter from his first wife, were injured in the firing.

The suspect, lodged in the lockup at the Ferozabad police station, told Dawn that he had married Hafeeza Begum seven years back after divorcing his first wife and arranged marriage of his step daughter, Naheed Akhtar, with his nephew, Muttiullah Khan, some six months back.

However, Naheed returned to his quarter a few days back after developing some discord with her husband, and despite Muttiullah's insistence, who had come to take her back, she refused to return, Abdullah said.

He said that on Thursday morning when he returned home to collect his medicines, which he required for his heart ailment, he found his step son, Ashfaq, carrying a pistol.

"Seeing me back in the house, Ashfaq pointed a pistol at me and they tried to grab my service SMG, which went off, killing them and injuring my daughters," Abdullah said, adding that as a result his real daughter, Nighat, 10, who had come from village was injured.

"Following the incident I surrendered my self in the Ferozabad police station," he added. "I have completed 25 years of my police service and applied for retirement thrice, but the department do not move my files and ask for money," he said. The suspect hailed from Mianwali, the police added.

KILLED: A trussed up body of an unidentified young man was recovered from a gunny bag in Nazimabad on early Thursday morning. Police said that victim, wearing trouser and shirt, was in his mid 20's. His body was stuffed in a gunny bag, which was dumped in a dirty narrow street in Muslim League Quarters, the police added.

The police said that the victim had a bullet wound in his head and torture marks all over his body. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

SUICIDE: An under-training recruit of the Pakistan Rangers committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at the Rangers Training Centre, Steel town, on Thursday morning.

Mohammad Hanif, 22, on Thursday morning, after doing physical training, returned to his barrack and consumed some poisonous substance, SHO, Bin Qasim, Amjad Channa, told Dawn. As his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died.

DIES: A young man, who was injured during an armed robbery in Lyari on Wednesday night, died during treatment at the Civil Hospital on Thursday. Police said that two armed suspects had intercepted Mohammad Waseem at the Ghausia Road and demanded cash. As he resisted them they opened fire and fled.
