LARKANA, March 3: District Nazim Khurshid Ahmad Junejo has called for proper lining of the Rice Canal passing through the city so that it can sustain water flow during floods.

In a letter addressed to Sindh additional chief secretary, development, and the secretary for irrigation, he said the canal would not sustain the flow of 12,000 to 18,000 cusecs of water during floods after the proposed canal lining with three-inch thickness.

He said modification should be made in the lining of the canal from RD-245 to RD-275. Sources said the district government had prepared the scheme with an estimated cost of Rs65 million but the Sindh government had approved Rs45.133 million for it.

An amount of Rs15 million was released in the current financial year for the project. The Nazim has also sent letters to the chief engineer, irrigation, Sukkur, and other officials concerned in this regard.
