MIRPURKHAS, March 1: Sindh food secretary Mir Mohammad Parhiyar has directed the food department officials to directly purchase wheat from the growers and transport the same on government expenses.
Bardano and cheque books for on-farm payments to the growers have been provided by the government to the officials. The food department has established some 53 wheat procurement centres to achieve a target of 100,000 ton wheat. Some 14 check posts have also been setup to check inter-district movement of wheat.
It may be mentioned here that the wheat harvesting had started in some areas of the district, particularly, in Digri taluka. Sources said hoarders had also started bringing their wheat in the market to avoid losses.
MEETING: The Citizen Action Committee at a meeting here on Sunday called upon the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan to ensure recovery of CAC member Razia Soomro in Ghotki.
The meeting under the chairmanship of Imtiaz Panhwar expressed concern that she had been missing for the last two months. The meeting apprehended that since she had married of her own choice, therefore, she might become fall prey to Karo-kari or handed over to Sardars. It said if Ms Soomro was not recovered the CAC would resort to protest.
DPSC: District Public Safety Commission chairman Abdul Rehman Sarhandi, taking serious notice of the increasing drug business and lawlessness, has directed police officials to take necessary steps to curb the menaces.
Mr Sarhandi was presiding over a joint meeting of DPSC members and police officials here on Thursday that was attended by DPO Dr Mohammad Ameen, SP (investigation) Manzoor Ahmed Khatian and others.
The meeting decided that the police would register cases without delay and complaints sent on behalf of the Public Safety Commission would be disposed of in 15 days following inquiries and no person would be detained without an FIR or a court remand.
DPO Ameen said the joint meeting was held to prepare a strategy and adopt the approved procedure to resolve genuine problems of the people and added that the annual policing plan would soon be presented in a meeting of the commission.
He directed the police officials to provide justice to the people and refrain from obliging influential persons while asking the commission members to cooperate with the police in eliminating crime and anti-social elements. The meeting also discussed the disposal of unclaimed properties, police excesses and complaints against SHOs.
MALARIA: A seminar to create awareness about Malaria was held in Jhuddo town on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, EDO health Dr Fazal Illahi Yousfani said recently reported cases in the press as cerebral malaria were those of simple malaria. He said keeping in view the situation an awareness programme had been launched in the district.
Jhuddo Union Council Nazim Gulzar Kaimkhani said it was negligence on the part of local bodies that anti-malaria spray was not conducted in towns. He said health officials poured the anti-malaria oil in sewerage drains and stagnant sewerage water to kill mosquitoes.
A large number of doctors, representatives of local bodies and residents of the town attended the seminar. District malaria officer Dr Jalil Bhurgari and others also spoke on the occasion.
SENSITIVE AREAS: The police have declared 18 places in the district sensitive during Muharram and have decided to install close-circuit cameras at different points. The sensitive places include 10 in the Mirpurkhas city, one each in Digri and Umerkot, two in Kot Ghulam Mohammad and four in Kunri.
