JHANG, March 1: Four members of a family, including two girls, were killed and three others injured when their car rammed into a trolley parked alongside the road near Mochiwala village, 21 kilometres from here.

The family was going to the shrine of Hazrat Sultan Bahu from Sheikhupura to participate in the annual Urs when the accident took place as the driver lost control of the vehicle due to over speed.

Driver Iqbal and Sima, wife of Hasan Ali, Sonia, 4, and Afrin, 6, died on the spot while the three injured were rushed to the Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, where condition of Amna Bibi was stated to be critical.

DEATH SENTENCE: A man was convicted of murder by the Chiniot additional district and sessions judge while three co-accused were acquitted. Convict Zulfiqar had killed Saifullah and Ayub when they stopped him from cutting wood from the state-owned forest in 2001.

The judge acquitted his co-accused Alam Sher, Mohammad Khan and Bahawal Bakhsh by giving them the benefit of the doubt.

SECURITY: Foolproof arrangements have been made to maintain law and order in the district on Ashura. This was told by DPO Khadim Husain Bhatti to this scribe on Monday.

He said all markets and shops along the Zuljinnah procession route would remain closed and no person would be allowed to watch it from the roof of house or shops which would be manned by the security personnel.

He said heavy police contingents would accompany Zuljinnah procession. Bomb disposal and special squads with metal detectors would comb the entire route before the passing of procession.

He said cameras have been installed at important points all along the route to keep an eye on anti-social elements. A ban on pillion riding, already imposed throughout the district, would be strictly observed and violators would not be spared. Beverages being served along the procession route would also be examined by the security personnel.
