93 councillors resign over separation of Wasa

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, Feb 29: City Nazim Mohammad Rahim Kakar and 93 other members of the district council have handed in their resignations to the convenor of the assembly, Mir Wali Mohammad Lehri, to protest against the government separating WASA from the district government.

The tussle between Quetta district's nazims and the provincial government functionaries occurred over the exercise of the power on the development projects and funds in the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA).

The provincial government decision to attach WASA to the planning and development department to be administered by the additional chief secretary for development is said to have ignited the protests and resignation.
