Aqeel ends veteran Hameed's dream run

ISLAMABAD, Feb 28: Top seed Aqeel Khan on Saturday walloped Hameedul Haq in straight sets to claim the Greener Pakistan National Clay Court Tennis title at the PTF Complex.
Aqeel, the Pakistan No 1, scored an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory against the 43-year-old player who had scored upset wins over youngsters Jaleel Khan, Shahzad Khan and Wasif Cheema on way to the final.
Hameed did not seem to have an answer to Aqeel's aggressive play and lost the first set tamely. However, he started off the second set by taking the first game but Aqeel quickly levelled the scores before zooming ahead and was soon serving for the match.
The victory earned Aqeel a prize purse of Rs 20,000 while Hameed, the Asian veteran champion collected Rs 12,000.
Meanwhile, Nousheen Ihtisham captured the ladies singles title beating Nida Rahim 6-3, 6-4. But Nida did well by annexing the girls under-17 crown defeating Saba Aziz 5-3, 4-2.
For her win, Nousheen was awarded a prize money of Rs 10,000 with Nida taking home Rs 5000.

Men's doubles final: Asim Shafik-Shahzad Khan bt Hameedul Haq- Wasif Cheema 6-1, 6-1
Ladies singles final: Nousheen Ihtisham bt Nida Rahim 6-3, 6-4
Girls under-17 singles final: Nida Rahim bt Saba Aziz 5-3, 4-2
Boys under-17 singles final: Omer Babar bt Tanveer Ashiq 7-6(3), 6-1.
