KARACHI, Feb 28: The Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD), Sindh chapter, on Saturday staged a big demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club against the killing of two minor girls by police personnel in Gadap Town a few days back.

A large number of activists and supporters of PPP and PML-N and other ARD components, raised slogans against the gruesome murder of Sassi and Hajra and demanded of the government to take serious notice of the tragedy.

Speaking on the occasion, provincial chief of the ARD Zain Ansari alleged that the government functionaries were patronizing the culprits which, he claimed, was evident from the fact that instead of senior SHC judges, police officials had been asked to hold the inquiry.

"The Sindh government said two days back that the inquiry would be conducted by judges, but now police officials have been assigned the task," he deplored, adding that this could happen only in Pakistan where rule of law did not exist.

Haji Muzaffar Shujra, speaking on the occasion, said the government had given to the people a gift of nine corpses of women in a week. This, he said, indicated that the government had failed in maintaining law and order.

Other ARD leaders held General Musharraf responsible for the poor law and order in the entire country and urged the government to concede its failure.

Former governor of Sindh Mamnoon Hussain, Salim Zia, Raheel Iqbal, Sardar Raheem and Basharat Mirza were among others who spoke on the occasion. - PPI
