PESHAWAR, Feb 28: NWFP police chief Mohammad Raffat Pasha the other day stressed the need for collective efforts for maintaining peace during Muharram and urged the people to demonstrate tolerance and coherence and supplement the police's efforts for foiling the designs of miscreants.

Talking to a 15-member delegation of the Anjuman-i-Tableegh Quran wa Sunnat and the Muttahida Amn Committee at the central police office, he called for caution and tolerance in dealing with sensitive issues.

He said the protection of life, honour and property of the people was the prime responsibility of the police.

He said the people of Peshawar enjoyed brotherly mutual relations and expressed the hope that peace would prevail during Muharram. He expressed appreciation for the volunteer and welfare-oriented efforts of both the committees and termed those indispensable for durable peace.

He asked the members of the delegation to keep vigil on anti-social elements negligent policemen. -PPI
