ISLAMABAD, Feb 27: The Supreme Court on Friday disqualified another MPA of Sindh, Bashir Ahmed Bhabhan of the PML-F, for possessing a fake Bachelor's degree.

A Supreme Court bench, comprising Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui, Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, on Friday dismissed the appeal of Bashir Ahmad Bhabhan against the judgment of Sindh Election Tribunal and upheld his disqualification for submitting the fake degree to the Election Commission at the time of elections. The lawmaker belongs to Khairpur district.

The apex court also turned down the request of Shaukat Ali Rajpar, PPP candidate, for declaring him winner from PS-31 (Khairpur). He had secured the second highest votes.

In the last two weeks, the court had also decided two other identical cases. On Feb 16, 2004, the court disqualified Mohammad Khan Junejo of the PML-F, MNA from Sanghar, for possessing a fake BA degree and ordered re-election. It also turned down the request of Fida Hussain Dero, PPP candidate, for declaring him the winner.

But in the case of Haroon Akhtar Khan, a Punjab MPA, the SC decided not to interfere, in which Mr Khan had been declared winner by Punjab Election Tribunal after disqualifying PML-N MPA Sheikh Amjad Aziz for possessing a fake degree.

The Supreme Court allowed the member to take oath as MPA, saying that a constituency could not be left unrepresented.
