ISLAMABAD, Feb 26: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali said on Thursday that the politicians living in exile are trying to get extra mileage from the sensitive national issues.

The prime minister said that the opposition has an important role in democracy as it keeps a check on the activities of the government. He, however, deplored that the politicians sitting outside Pakistan were trying to extract mileage by exploiting the sensitive issues.

Talking to a group of legislators who called on him, the prime minister said that the democracy has been revived in the country and the democratic institutions were taking their roots.

The premier said his government was committed to the provision of basic social services such as education, health, communication and utilities such as gas and electricity to the rural and urban areas of the country.

Mr Jamali assured enough funds to the elected representatives both to the treasury and the opposition. "We will take all necessary steps to make democracy work effectively," he said.

He said that the Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) believed in the politics of tolerance and accommodation and would take along its allied parties on the national and international issues.

The prime minister urged the elected representatives to devote their energies to redress the public grievances specially with regard to the provision of basic social services.
