CPNE body calls for adherence to rule

KARACHI, Feb 26: The Sindh Committee of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors at its meeting here on Wednesday considered the issue of accreditation of correspondents and photographers by the Sindh Information Department for 2004 and declared that the endorsement of application forms when given under signatures and seals of editor or managing editor of newspaper/news agency should be enough for accreditation.

The meeting felt that introduction of any additional requirement (other than endorsement of editor/managing editor) for the purpose of accreditation was unacceptable and uncalled for.

It strongly felt that accreditation rules in Sindh should not be different from those in other provinces, where the filing of appointment letter was not required.

The meeting, presided over by joint convener Anwer Farooqui and convener Mahmudul Aziz, felt that due caution and care should be exercised by newspaper editors while issuing authorization and endorsement on application forms for accreditation.

The meeting considered a proposal for holding a seminar on "Press Freedom in the backdrop of national interests". -PPI
