PESHAWAR: Plea against detention disposed of

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Feb 25: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday disposed of a writ petition challenging the detention of a citizen by the Inter Service Intelligence.

The bench, comprising Justice Tariq Pervez and Justice Qaim Jan Khan, issued the disposal orders after the petitioner's counsel informed it that detainee Abdul Khalil had returned.

Barrister Adnan Saboor Rohaila, appearing for the petitioner Ms Amina, wife of detainee, stated that she did not want to press the case. He said the petition might be considered withdrawn.

The court had earlier directed the additional inspector-general of police to investigate the detainee's disappearance, who was allegedly picked up by the ISI more than three months ago.

The SHO of the concerned West Cantonment police station, Shafiullah Khan, had expressed ignorance about the disappearance. He had denied that he was part of a raiding party that had picked Mr Khalil from his residence on Nov 8.

The court had recorded a joint statement of some members of Mr Khalil's family. They had claimed that a police party, comprising the SHO, four constables, two women constables and three officials in plain clothes, had raided Mr Khalil's residence.
