KARACHI, Feb 23: The relief goods sent by an international NGO, Church World Service, were distributed on Monday among victims of the recent earthquake in Northern Areas.

A total of 100 shelter kits - each containing a tent, a ground sheet, a plastic sheet, two blankets, and food packs including wheat flour, cooking oil, pulses, tea leaves, sugar and salt - would be distributed among worst-hit families on Saturday. Another 15 families would be provided tents.

A team of the NGO had earlier visited the quake-hit villages - Reen, Jigun, Bhagaar, Hangrai and Savor - in Balakot Tehsil of Mansehra district. Over 1,250 households in the five affected villages were evaluated and 287 families were found to be worst-hit and 115 of them appeared in need of relief goods.

The CWS has urged other NGOs to come forward and provide assistance to the quake victims who are forced to live in open amid harsh winter and continuing rains.
