SC to take up plea against tribunal's order

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: The Supreme Court will take up a petition on Monday seeking suspension of Lahore High Court Election Tribunal's order, declaring Haroon Akthar Abdur Rehman, son of late ISI chief Akthar Abdur Rehman, winner in place of Amjad Aziz, PML-N MPA.

Shafqat Abbasi, advocate, who has filed the petition, is running against time, as the Punjab Assembly has been convened to meet on Monday at 11am in which Haroon Akhtar Abdur Rehman, would be administered the oath.

The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Rana Bhagwandas, and Justice Sardar Raza Khan, would take up the petition challenging the disqualification of Amjad Aziz, PML(N) MPA.

It is the first decision of its kind in which an Election Tribunal has declared the runner up as a winner after the disqualification of the original winner.
