PML-N seeks open trial of Hashmi

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has called President Gen Pervez Musharraf "a serious threat to the national security and solidarity" and called for an open trial of PML-N acting chief Makhdoom Javed Hashmi.

The PML-N organized a seminar on "Threats to national security and its solutions" here at a local hotel. PML-N chairman Raja Zafarul Haq, secretary-general Saranjam Khan, vice-president Mushahidullah Khan, ARD secretary-general Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, former finance minister Sartaj Aziz, MNA Memoona Hashmi, Syed Zafar Ali Shah and others spoke on the occasion.

Mr Haq demanded that the 1973 Constitution be restored in its original form as it was on Oct 12, 1999. He said President Musharraf's policy on Afghanistan, Iraq and nuclear issues lacked political acumen and statesmanship, and claimed the people had totally lost confidence in the government's ability to steer the country out of crisis.

A message from Nawaz Sharif was also read out at the seminar by PML-N information secretary Siddiqul Farooq.
