LAHORE: Mini-Basant leaves boy dead

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Feb 22: A boy was electrocuted here at Baghbanpura in a mini-Basant related incident on Sunday. Aslam told police that his son Umar, 11, was playing with children outside his house at Crown Park when he touched twine of a stray kite falling on livewire.

He said his son suffered an electric shock and was taken to hospital where he died. The body was returned to the family without autopsy. Meanwhile, people celebrated mini-Basant in various parts of the city.

Some excitement was witnessed at rooftops, parks and grounds in the city where families, especially youngsters, bade adieu to the spring festival. Most of the mini Basant-related events were organized at public places and open areas.

Those busy in catching stray kites through bamboos caused traffic problems on some of the city roads. Few cases of minor injuries were reported. Police patrol parties kept vigil on various roads to guard against violation of the use of banned material. However, no arrest was made till late evening.
