HYDERABAD, Feb 21: The Sindh People's Students' Federation has said its workers are not involved in a criminal assault attempt on a girl student at the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Saturday, SPSF general secretary Aijaz Dhamrah said the accused of the shameful incident had never been the member of the organization.

He said after conducting a thorough investigation he was convinced the arrested SPSF activists- Adnan Jamali, Munir Memon and Shahab Anwar- were not involved in the incident.

Mr Dhamrah said the SPSF would not tolerate any hoodlum in any educational institution of Sindh. "We are custodians of the honour of our women", he said.

He criticized those student organizations which were demanding a ban on the SPSF in the LUMHS and added political activities of the SPSF would continue in educational institutions unabated.

Meanwhile, the three arrested students were freed by the Jamshoro police on personal bonds on Friday night as the offence was bailable.

LUMHS vice-chancellor Professor Jan Mohammad Memon constituted a committee to conduct an investigation into the incident.

In a statement, a spokesman for the vice- chancellor said the responsible persons would be made accountable for the incident.

He said the father of the girl student met the vice-chancellor on Friday and expressed confidence in the steps taken so far by him in the matter.

The spokesman said such activities would not be tolerated at the campus and added admission of the involved students had been suspended and action would be taken in the light of recommendations of the committee.

He claimed classes and examinations in the university were going on.

SU: The University of Sindh registrar on Saturday announced the nomenclature of the department of fine arts has been changed as the "Institute of Arts and Design" as decided by the SU academic council.

He also announced according to the decision of the academic council, Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi chair had been established at the Sindhi department.

LAST DATE: The controller of examinations, University of Sindh, announced last date for submission of examination forms for B.Ed and M.Ed, off campus programme, had been extended to Feb 26 with a late fee of Rs200.
