LAHORE, Feb 21: An accountability court on Saturday convicted Tehsildar Najamuddin Dar to 10 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs1 million on the charges of corruption.
Judge Mian Subha Sadiq also sentenced co-accused Patwari Maqsood Husain to five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs500,000.
A NAB press release said Najam Dar as Lahore Cantonment Consolidation Officer, with the connivance of Maqsood, misused his authority and obtained benefits of millions of rupees for himself and their relatives.
Mr Dar gained Rs3,687,000 through sale mutations pertaining to 51 kanals, 17 marlas by forgery in the revenue record of the Lahore Cantonment during 1999-2000.
Both accused got transferred 321 kanals of local government and rural development department and gained illegal benefit of Rs10,200,000.
Mr Dar transferred two kanals government land situated in Mauza Lidhar of Lahore Cantonment in the name of his sister-in-law Abida Sajjad.
Through Shafi Siddique, Mr Dar obtained land for Wapda at lower rates in his capacity as authority's land acquisition collector. He sold the land to Wapda and got approximately Rs10 million profit, which he deposited in the account of his wife Sajida Begum.-APP
