Formation of Bar body welcomed

By Our Correspondent

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20: Attorney-General Makhdoom Ali Khan on Friday welcomed the American Bar Association's decision of forming a Pakistan sub-committee of South and Southeast Asia Law Committee and expressed the hope that it would help in developing meaningful relations between the legal communities of the two countries.

The attorney-general said the US Supreme Court judgements in constitutional cases were frequently cited by Pakistani lawyers. He said the courts here had relied extensively on major US legal texts and judicial decisions in a number of important decisions on constitutional law.

The international law and practice section of the association has announced the creation of the sub-committee to maintain strong links between Pakistan and America in the legal sphere. The chief of the sub-committee is Mahnaz Malik.

With more than 400,000 members, the ABA is the largest voluntary professional association in the world. US Ambassador Nancy Powell has also welcomed the formation of the sub-committee.
