FAISALABAD: Construction of roads at a snail's pace

FAISALABAD, Feb 20: Many of the city roads have been under construction for many months, creating multiple problems for motorists. The Tehsil Municipal Administration seems to have launched these projects without a proper plan.

The construction of Circular Road, Railway Road, Regency Road, Jhang Bazaar, Karkhana Bazaar Road, Aminpur Bazaar Road, Mall Road and a number of other roads leading to heart of the city is under way at a snail's pace, making people inhale tons of dust daily. Continuous blowing of horns during traffic jams and emission of diesel smoke are related sources of pollution.

Almost all city roads are unmotorable. Some of these roads have developed huge potholes that damage vehicles. The overflowing gutters of Wasa have not only destroyed roads and streets but also city's greenbelts.

All this is additional to the major source of pollution in the city - the scores of industrial units in different parts of the city that discharge effluent in canals, release poisonous smoke and cause noise pollution. - Correspondent
