HYDERABAD, Feb 20: The Sindh Board of Revenue has authorized the Left Bank Canal Area Water Board to collect water tax from growers whose lands fall in the limits of LBCAWB.
An agreement to this effect has already been signed between the board of revenue and area water board. The Sindh Revenue Board secretary has issued instructions to taluka Mukhtiarkars concerned not to recover Abiyana from growers whose lands fall in the jurisdiction of LBCAWB.
The area water board Badin said it was fully authorized to collect Abiyana from its jurisdiction from the Kharif season 2003 under the Sindh Water Management Ordinance 2002. Some confusions existed that the payment of Abiyana was exempted as Badin had been declared calamity affected area.
It clarified that under notifications (DD (E&I)/662), Sept 20, 2003 issued by the Sindh Revenue Board "only the recovery of all past years, government dues had been postponed for one year in respect of the affected areas declared as such by the relief department".
The LBCAWB advised the growers to pay Abiyana to its staff and farmers' organizations as per the existing rules and regulations for Kharif 2003. It directed the Badin staff to collect Abiyana within the stipulated period.
POLICE EXCESSES: A landlord of Larkana, Aijaz Ali Jatoi, presently living in A colony Zeal Pak Cement Factory, has accused the SHO Market police station, Asad Nabi Khichi of criminal trespass into his Larkana house.
Speaking at a news conference at the Hyderabad press club on Friday, he said the SHO raided his house on Jan 13 at 2am and after breaking the locks, took away Rs25,000 cash, 60 grams gold and a coloured television.
He said this action of the SHO was shocking and aimed at defaming him in the eyes of the people. He sighted four witnesses who were present there at that time.
Mr Jatoi said the SHO deserved to be removed from the government service and action should be taken against him. When asked if he had lodged any FIR against the SHO, Mr Jatoi said he had made several written complaints to the higherauthorities.
HDA: The Hyderabad Development Authority, director-general, Ali Ahmed Lund on Friday cancelled all leaves of WASA and building control department employees to meet any emergency situation during Muharram days.
He convened an urgent meeting at his office which was attended by WASA managing-director Tahir Ahmed, director building control, Masood Jumani and other senior officers of the two departments.
The director-general announced the setting up of six complaint centres in three talukas of the city as well as in the offices of MD, WASA, director technical services and special complaint centre at the building control department to meet any emergency during Muharram.
The director-general will personally supervise the working of the six complaint centres which will work on 8, 9 and 10 Muharram.
The director building control Masood Jumani informed the meeting that all arrangements had been made from Kadamgah Maula Ali to Dadan Shah, Imam Bargah and added that all the construction works from Muharram 3 to 10 had been banned on the Muharram procession routes and the venues of congregations.
