SRINAGAR, Feb 19: Indian security forces shot dead four mujahideen in two overnight encounters in occupied Kashmir, a police spokesman said on Thursday. He said personnel from the Rashtriya Rifles killed three mujahideen during a gunfight in the woody Gadole area near Kokernag.

"The fighting erupted when the army sealed off the area on a tip-off that militants were present there," the spokesman said and added that the fighting ended late on Wednesday but search for more mujahideen in the area continued.

Indian troops killed another freedom fighter near Bijbehara overnight during an encounter, police said. "An Indian army major was injured," he said. -AFP
