THATTA, Feb 18: Internet users in the district are facing problems becausethe communication system has developed some faults at four sites. The problem has been there for about fortnight.

The PTCL authorities told this correspondent that the Alcatel communication system of France and the ZTE telecommunication system of China were installed in various telephone exchanges of the district.

The Alcatel system was working error-free, however, the ZTE systems had developed some faults which were untraceable. Thorough inspection of the Virtual Private Network (VPN) of underground PTCL fibre system was also underway.

The Internet users in Thatta, Sujawal, Dhabeji and Deewan towns, mainly operating through 510 series of numbers, said the companies were not paying proper attention to get the system restored.

DUES DEMADED: A group of retired government employees held a demonstration here on Tuesday against the non-payment of benevolent fund.

The demonstrators holding placards and banners marched on the National Highway to reach the Thatta press club. Speaking on the occasion, Sufi Noor Mohammad and others said over 1,100 retired employees were facing hardships due to non-payment of fund.

They said the Sindh High Court had directed the finance department for provision of fund but they still yielded no results. They said officials were reluctant to release the benevolent fund of the Thatta district employees amounting to Rs30 million. They warned that if the authorities did not release funds they would observe hunger strike for an indefinite period.
